Jayne Benz Chipman

Partner

Jayne is a co-founding Partner at Plaza de Jennings & Chipman LLP. Over her 35-plus year legal career, Jayne has represented public and private clients in a broad range of labor, employment and governance matters, with an emphasis on public sector employers, higher educational institutions, independent schools and non-profit organizations. She has substantial experience and expertise representing and advising public and private employers in hiring, employee performance and discipline, workplace investigations, personnel policies, leaves of absence, medical and disability matters, equal employment opportunity, discrimination and harassment, and traditional labor law matters. She also counsels public sector clients on Brown Act, Public Records Act, and governance issues. Jayne has litigated at all levels of the California court system and the district and circuit court levels of the federal court system. She also has arbitration and administrative hearing experience, and has handled matters before state and federal administrative agencies including PERB, EEOC, CRD, NLRB and Cal OSHA.

Jayne believes that in order to be an effective advocate or counsel for your client, an attorney needs to be willing to “roll up their sleeves” and dig deeply to really understand the facts and the client’s particular situation. Additionally, Jayne has developed a strong belief over the years that knowing the law and the facts is frequently not enough; effective advice and representation requires getting to really know your clients beyond any one legal matter. Jayne realizes that clients know when you care and have their back 24/7. She works hard to earn that level of trust from her clients.

Jayne loves the outdoors, having grown up in upstate New York. She is also enthusiastic about art and architecture, travel, and enjoys spending time with her family near and far.
